Knife Network Knife Review : Spyderco Chinook II
by Anthony LombardoTo read the complete review, click here ...

Spyderco Chinook II-Clunker or Classic?

I am, in general, a big fan of Spyderco. Company founder and president Sal Glesser is a cutlery genius best known for popularizing serrated blades, pocket clips and one hand opening via their trademark blade hole.

Spyderco’s trend over the last several years has been to produce scaled-down, smaller “pseudo-tacticals” that were less threatening and pre 9-11 would certainly pass the airplane boarding test so many of us have taken over the years.

I was not a big fan of this strategy ...

New Product Review : Camillus Heat
by Anthony Lombardo

Camillus turns up the HEAT

Over the last 10 years, old reliable Camillus Cutlery has freed itself from the chains of producing boring knives. That’s right, boring. Except for wartime, this great American knife making firm produced such ho-hummers like reams of grandpa’s yellow handled whittlers, Hopalong Cassidy’s original lucite handled jackknife, and stacks of rubber handled filet and hunting knives that appealed to the more parsimonious enthusiasts.

The changes at the sleeping giant began with the introduction of the CUDA Quick Action tactical folders. Although innovative and timely, the Quick Action line was a flash in the pan, although long gone, they opened the eyes of Camillus management that the “Tactical” knife market was not a fad and may actually have some legs. Since then Camillus has collaborated with Custom makers like Bob Terzuola, Rob Simonich, Jerry Fisk, and Darrel Ralph to add some spice to their conservative line up of tried and trues.

The latest and best effort is the Heat, a Darrel Ralph design manufactured in Taiwan to Camillus specifications.

Click for more ...by Alex Whetsell

What more fitting way to open up our new Knife Network industry publication reviews than with a real bang?

In the upcoming September edition of BLADE Magazine, Knife Network member Steven Licata, and his recent incident with the New Jersey media, is nicely exposed for the mess that it caused. Blade magazine writer and editor, Steve Shackleford, took the opportunity to blast the heck out of the local television media for their obvious case of knife phobia, resulting in character assassination. It was a well done article by Steve and shows how powerful people in the knife industry came together in support for the rights of our community member when his rights were being violated.

CUSTOM NEWS : A MASTER AND WHY I COLLECT HIS WORK.
Continued.by Don Guild ( guildknives.com )

Arpad Bojtos is some what of a throwback to the Middle Ages in that his focus, tools, techniques and Renaissance eye seem more in step with 16th-century Europe rather than the 21st-century version. He’s a full-time maker who produces very few knives a year, mostly via commission by sophisticated collectors who have an appreciation for spectacular edged artwork.

CUSTOM NEWS : BLADE™ COVER STORY : TNK/JOHNNY STOUT
by Neil Ostroff ( TNK )

Several months ago, I was contacted by Steve Shackelford, the Senior Editor of Blade Magazine.   He was planning an article on IVORY material being used for upscale knives and asked for my input.  We talked for a while and I told him about some of the many knives that passed though my company that used such beautiful scales.
